Water Through A Frozen Pipe3月26日 GoodReadsI've been keeping track of what books I have read over at GoodReads, instead of the notebook system I used to employ. I really love GoodReads - reading everyone else's reviews, hearing about new books that I might not have known about otherwise and just having a good place for my book lists - ones I want to read, ones I never finished, etc, etc. I love lists. But, I find myself not writing anything in the review section of the books I've read because I usually don't feel like my reviews are the type that will be useful to anyone else. I'm thinking about getting another notebook and keeping track there, too. Mostly just a place to write down my stream-of-consciousness type of thoughts when I finish a book and don't feel up to writing a mini book talk suitable for public consumption. Of course, I could just get over myself and write whatever at GoodReads without worrying about what anyone else will think...but I don't seem to be ready for that yet. 4月29日 Ten on Tuesday: What I bought at the grocery store this morning1.) gingerale
2.) apple juice
3.) gatorade
4.) popsicles
5.) bottled water
6.) applesauce
7.) saltines (the unsalted top variety)
8.) plain white bread
9.) jello
10.) flexible plastic straws
I'm hoping that the boys will be able to keep some of it down. And that they don't pass their little bug to me!
3月7日 Five on Friday1. It's snowing. a lot. My husband's flight got cancelled, so he won't be home tonight. Also, we could really use a snowblower. Or a shorter driveway.
2. My son's birthday was last week, so we now have a 13-year-old in the house. How did he get so old so fast? (admittedly, he has had the teenager attitude since he was 7.) My parents gifted him with an ipod nano. I didn't want him messing about with how I have my itunes set up, so we set him up with his own profile and got him his own email address.
3. I've been thinking about the restrictions we have for the boys. They don't have cell phones, can only play video games on weekends and holidays, we won't let them do any online gaming (of the kind that connects them with other people), we restrict their video games and movies based on content, won't let them take mp3 players or gameboys to school, and, until recently, didn't see any reason for them to have email addresses. I was talking today with one of the youth group leaders from the church we have been attending, and he mentioned about how they collect everyone's cell phones before class on Sundays because otherwise the kids text all through class. He said they all have phones. Except my kid, apparently. I know some parents who don't think twice about letting their grade schoolers play mature video games and watch R rated movies. Most of the time I feel like we strike a good balance. We fall right in the middle ground between the types who don't even own TVs and the ones that are very permissive. But some times I feel like the big mean ogre mom.
4. I had some blood drawn earlier in the week and even though it didn't hurt at the time, I now have a nasty, sore bruise. Every morning when I get dressed, I think, "I'm glad it's winter so I can wear long sleeves."
5. My birthday is this weekend, and I think my mother is planning on giving me an ipod nano. I might be a little spoiled
8月20日 decisions, decisions...I'm not really in the mood for the books I have checked out from the library (children's/YA fantasy and a few plays). So, I've decided to read one of the many unread books from my own collection.
I am perfectly happy to do this...
But I can't decide which one to read.
It really should be easier than this.
I've narrowed it down to 9 books
The Mediator by Meg Cabot
Widdershins by Charles De Lint
Anybody Out There? by Marian Keyes
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
Squashed by Joan Bauer
Thwonk by Joan Bauer
Beauty Sleep by Cameron Dokey
Whose Wedding is it Anyway? by Melissa Senate
All Alone in the Universe by Lynn Rae Perkins
I'm not the most decisive person even on my best days, but I think tiredness is part of my problem tonight. I'm sure that it will be an easier decision tomorrow. For tonight, I'll read part of something from my non-fiction stack. Probably To Buy or Not To Buy Organic by Cindy Burke. On the other hand, maybe I don't need to be thinking about pesticides and other dangers right before I fall asleep.
7月28日 Why my husband does not like me shopping at Target - Reason #374
Star Wars Galactic Heroes toys Who could resist these?
In my defense, the boys do actually still play with these (big battles in which they divide the heroes into groups and stage elimination-brawl-style championships. The droid/jawa/ewok crew only ever stands a chance of winning when the sometimes tender-hearted 10-year-old is calling the shots.) But the main reason that they have so very many of these little guys is because I buy them whenever I see a new set. I think they are just the cutest little things. Earlier this week, I was supposed to only be buying a few necessities at Target and avoiding anything that was not vital to our survival. Then I saw Leia with her tiny thermal detonator and carbon frozen boyfriend and I couldn't see how we could possibly survive without them. Okay, even drama queen me didn't actually think that, but I bought it anyway because I always purchase the sets that actually include a female character. On principle. I almost made it out of there with just one set, but then I noticed Luke and Darth. Don't they look like they are dancing in a musical number? Star Wars the Musical! It makes me smile every time I look at them. My mother suggested they might be doing "Puttin' on The Ritz", ala Gene Wilder's Young Frankenstein, which makes it even funnier. I think Darth/Anakin is amused by it, too 7月27日 Quiz: 80's lyricsOh, the shame. Once I got to the answers, I was kicking myself (figuratively, of course) for some of the ones I missed. I knew that Violent Femmes one, but apparently I got test anxiety, because I couldn't remember the right word. Ah well. Oh, and I'll give you a hint - spelling counts. I found that out the hard way.
![]() Sassy Shoe ThursdayFor my inaugural Sassy Shoe Thursday, I have chosen one of my favorite pairs of shoes. I don't wear them very often, since they are white fabric and I'm afraid I'm going to stain them, but I really do adore them. They are the ones that I was complimented on while waiting in line for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. 7月25日 Why didn't I think of it?I haven't read much of and can't vouch for the content of his site, but melding Cookie Monster and a book addiction is brilliant.

It's pretty much the same thing every year, isn't it? I have been really struggling with the "too many holds from the library" one this year. It's like I have no self-control.
